Real athletes. Real medals. Real transformation.

Meet the Special Olympics athletes who train at Adamo Fitness and what consistent, structured coaching has done for their lives.

Adamo Fitness Special Olympics athletes

What structured training looks like in real life

Our Special Olympics athletes train like any serious athlete trains. Real programming. Real coaching. Real accountability. The results are medals, yes, but the bigger story is what happens outside the gym.

Larry, Special Olympics athlete at Adamo Fitness
Larry, 48

Larry walked into Adamo fighting severe social anxiety. Today he's built meaningful friendships, trains consistently, and brought home three gold medals at the 2025 Special Olympics Ohio Games.

Alaina, Special Olympics athlete representing Team Ohio
Alaina, 28

Since starting structured strength training, Alaina has lost twenty pounds and now competes in four sports year-round. In 2026 she'll represent Team Ohio at the Special Olympics USA Games.

Sean, Special Olympics athlete at Adamo Fitness
Sean, 21

Sean came to us facing significant mental health challenges. He now competes in two Special Olympics sports, rides horses, and performs aerobatics in his free time.

Violet, young Special Olympics athlete at Adamo Fitness
Violet, 12

Three months into consistent strength training, Violet is noticeably more confident and secure in who she is. As she gets stronger physically, she grows stronger emotionally.

The same coaching that built our members' results

Special Olympics athletes at Adamo get the same evidence-based strength programming every other member gets. Professional coaches. Progressive loading. Accountability. Nothing about the programming is watered down. What's different is patience, structure, and the relationships built along the way.

Structured strength programming

Real progression toward real strength. Every session is coached, every rep has a purpose.

Community and accountability

Our athletes train alongside a community that shows up for them, and they show up for us. Friendships form. Confidence compounds.

Event preparation and support

From local competitions to state and national Games, we help athletes prepare and celebrate every milestone.

Led by a head coach. Powered by volunteers.

Special Olympics Ohio's competition season runs March through June. Zach leads our Special Olympics team as head coach, supported by community volunteers who donate their time every week during the season. Adamo provides the facility, the programming, and the weekly training window. But seasonal training only works when it's layered on top of year-round training. Community Sponsorship, detailed below, is what makes that year-round foundation possible for any developmentally disabled athlete, Special Olympics competitor or not.

The medals are the highlight. The weekly training is the engine.

Our volunteer Special Olympics coaching runs four months a year. Community Sponsorship runs all 52 weeks. For competitors, the two programs stack during the March-to-June season. For every other developmentally disabled athlete in our community, sponsorship is the only consistent structured training they have access to.
